Beth Anne went home and took to her journal, “How can I build in more joy for women?” She would ruminate on this question for months. The same question echoes the sentiment from her graduate research investigating women’s leisure in male-dominated spaces. Leisure experiences, she would argue, are a direct correlation to equity experiences because if you take part in leisure, particularly serious leisure (structured, engaged leisure in a structured matter), you often have disposable income, time and resources to dedicate to your leisure.

She looked towards her students in the women in science and engineering programs. How too can they build joy into their day to day? How can we build better so that work-life balance is at the forefront of their thoughts rather than an afterthought?

She spoke about this moment at an equity conference, sharing that if you, too, work in equity, you better prioritize play, joy, and rest.

This realization sparked a fire within Beth Anne, igniting the creation of a journal that doesn't just document days but becomes a sanctuary for joy, manifesting, and self-discovery.
